Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Streatery fees capped; enforcement starts Jan 15, 2026

The law caps the annual public-space rent for a streatery permit at $15 per square foot. Multiply your streatery’s square footage by $15 to find your maximum yearly fee. Agencies cannot start enforcing Streatery Guidelines or rules before January 15, 2026.

18th Street NW corridor and curbside streateries

The safety program must include the 2000–2400 blocks of 18th Street NW in Ward 1. Agencies must also consider using curbside space for streateries, parklets, and other public activations when they make curbside design recommendations.

Flexible streatery designs; renew every 2 years

The Public Space Committee can waive certain streatery rules. It can allow shorter distances from driveways or trees, enclosure heights over 42 inches, or higher seating, if it finds no undue risk to pedestrians or roadway users. If you receive a waiver, you must apply to renew your streatery permit every two years.
