Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

No deed taxes for listed parishes

The Archdiocese of Washington and the named parish corporations do not pay DC deed recordation or deed transfer taxes on the specific properties listed in the law while they hold title. The Archbishop can move those listed properties to the named parishes by supplemental deed with no extra payment. Those supplemental deed transfers owe no deed or recordation taxes and do not need a real property tax exemption application. These breaks are in addition to any other tax relief that already applies.

Property taxes waived for parish properties

The specific properties named in the law stay exempt from DC real property tax while the Archbishop or the named parish owns them. The owner or any tenant must use the property for religious, charitable, educational, or related services. Any part not used that way can be taxed under DC law.

Emergency law in effect 90 days

The law takes effect once the Mayor approves it or the Council overrides a veto. It is an emergency act and lasts no more than 90 days. The tax exemptions apply during this period.
