New Madison County probate court technology fees

The law authorizes the Madison County, Georgia, Probate Court clerk to collect technology fees set by the probate judge. Each civil action filing can carry a fee up to $10, and each fine can carry a surcharge up to $10. The clerk must keep this money in a separate account, used only for authorized court technology needs. Allowed uses include buying computers, software, and accessories, plus leasing, maintaining, and installing computer hardware. Funds also cover buying, leasing, maintaining, and installing imaging, scanning, fax, communications, projection, and printing equipment and software. They can also pay for services or equipment to turn court records and archives into digital content for public access. Authority to assess these fees ends July 1, 2031. Any money left in the account remains dedicated to general Madison County technology uses.
