Union County voters get advisory governance vote

The law requires Union County’s election superintendent to hold an advisory vote on November 3, 2026. Voters choose Yes or No on replacing the sole commissioner with a five-member board of commissioners. The vote itself does not change county government. The superintendent must publish the election date and purpose once weekly for two consecutive weeks immediately before the election. Union County pays the election costs, and the superintendent must certify results to the Georgia Secretary of State. Any county voter can ask a court to enforce these duties if the superintendent fails or refuses to comply. If the court finds noncompliance, it must order the election for the required date. If that date is unavailable, the court must require the next date allowed for special elections under state law.
