Mableton voters decide on redevelopment powers

The law requires a Mableton referendum on November 3, 2026, with a Yes/No question on approving city redevelopment powers. Approval requires more than half of the votes cast on that question. Approval immediately lets the city use all powers allowed under Georgia’s Redevelopment Powers Law, including future changes. These include community redevelopment, tax allocation districts, tax allocation bonds, and related financial obligations. If approval fails or the election is not conducted as required, the act is automatically repealed on January 1, 2027. Notice must appear in Cobb County’s official newspaper at least 90 days before the election and weekly for the two weeks immediately before it. The city pays election costs, and its election superintendent must certify the result to Georgia’s Secretary of State. The law sets no specific project, household benefit, or dollar amount.
