Hall County’s state court keeps three judges until January 1, 2028, when it expands to four. The Governor appoints the fourth judge for an initial term ending December 31, 2030. Qualified Hall County voters elect the successor alongside the 2030 general primary for a four-year term. Both judges serve until their elected successors qualify; existing judges also continue until their elected successors qualify. The longest-serving judge on this court is chief judge. Georgia’s state court rules govern judges’ qualifications, restrictions, discipline, and powers.
Hall County state court judges receive annual pay equal to 90% of a defined superior court judge salary. That benchmark includes state-paid salary and applicable Hall County locality pay effective July 1, 2026. It also includes salary increases on or after July 1, 2026. Hall County pays these salaries from county funds on the same schedule as other county employees. The law states no dollar amount or change from prior pay.
