Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Pooler can charge up to 6%

The law lets Pooler charge a lodging tax of up to 6% of the lodging charge. Covered lodging includes hotels, motels, inns, campgrounds, and other places that regularly or periodically offer paid stays. Providers must be licensed by Pooler or required to pay its business or occupation taxes. The law does not require Pooler to impose the tax or set the actual rate.

Pooler lodging taxes fund tourism projects

Each fiscal year, Pooler must use lodging tax collections above what a 5% rate collects for tourism. At least 50% of that excess must fund tourism, convention, and trade-show promotion. Pooler's designated destination marketing organization, or another entity authorized under existing contracts, must handle that promotion spending. The remaining excess must fund tourism product development. These spending rules follow the city's resolution adopted January 20, 2026.
