Veterinary technicians can give rabies shots

Licensed veterinary technicians can now give Georgia-required rabies shots under a licensed veterinarian’s direct supervision. The Georgia Board of Veterinary Medicine defines that supervision, and the vaccine must be approved by Georgia’s health department. County health boards require rabies shots for dogs and cats and set vaccination schedules, methods, and county clinic fees. A separate county-authorized fee remains capped at 50 cents per dog; the veterinarian giving or directly supervising the shot collects it. If a county has no resident veterinarian, the out-of-county veterinarian must send that fee to the treasurer where the dog’s owner lives.
