Added fees on Mount Airy court fines

The law allows Mount Airy Municipal Court to add a technology fee to each criminal or quasi-criminal fine paid. The judge sets the fee by court order, with a $10 limit per fine. The town’s chief financial officer and court clerk must keep the money separate from other town funds. Money can only cover court technology purchases, leases, upkeep, and installation, including computers, software, scanning, faxing, communications, projection, and printing. The town manager directs spending, which can also repay the town’s technology department for services provided to the court.
