Mableton court can add technology fees

The law lets Mableton Municipal Court add a technology fee to each criminal or quasi-criminal fine. The judge sets the fee, capped at $10 per fine. Money can only fund authorized court and police technology, including buying, leasing, maintaining, and installing computers, software, and equipment. Covered uses include imaging, scanning, faxing, communications, projections, printing, police cameras, drones, and the city's dedicated 9-1-1 answering system. The money can also reimburse the city's information technology department for services to the court or police. The court clerk and city chief financial officer must keep the money in a separate account. The funds are subject to audit by an auditor approved by the city's governing authority.
