New fee on Forest Park court fines

Forest Park Municipal Court can add a technology fee to each criminal or quasi-criminal fine paid to the court. The judge sets the fee, capped at $10 per fine. Money must fund only authorized court or city police technology, including computers, evidence systems, cameras, license plate readers, and drones. Other technology requires the city governing body's determination that it is needed for public safety and effective court operations. The court clerk and city chief financial officer must keep the money in a separate account. Spending requires the judge's order after consulting the court administrator and police chief. The money can also repay the city's information technology department for services provided to the court or police.
