Beginning January 1, 2029, the law ends Cobb County’s elected surveyor office and requires county leaders to appoint a surveyor. Appointees must meet the qualifications in Georgia Code Section 36-7-2(b)(1). The appointment resolution can set a term. Otherwise, the surveyor serves indefinitely, as long as county leaders choose. Future surveyors are appointed the same way.
