Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Current commissioners keep serving terms

Commissioners in office when the law takes effect keep serving until their terms end. Anyone chosen to fill a vacancy serves until that term ends. Members from old Districts 1–4 are treated as serving the new versions of those districts after the law.

When the new maps take effect

The law takes effect when the Governor approves it or it becomes law without approval. From that moment, the new districts and rules apply. Any older laws that conflict with this act are repealed.

New districts for Banks County commissioners

The law divides Banks County into five commissioner districts. Districts 1–4 follow the map in Appendix A named BanksCC-2025. District 5 covers the whole county, and that member serves as board chair. The lines use 2020 Census VTDs, blocks, and city boundaries. Any area left out goes to the neighboring district with the smallest 2020 population. Any area not touching its listed district moves to the nearest touching district with the smallest 2020 population.
