Gilmer County ends elections for county surveyor
Gilmer County residents no longer elect the county surveyor. The county governing authority appoints each surveyor for a one-year term starting on the appointment date, including successors. Appointees must meet the qualifications in Georgia Code Section 36-7-2(b)(1). Anyone serving as elected surveyor when the law took effect stays until that elected term ends. The law became effective upon the Governor's approval or upon becoming law without approval.
