Gilmer County surveyor now appointed yearly

The law ends elections for the Gilmer County surveyor. The county governing authority now appoints the surveyor for one-year terms from the appointment date. Appointees must meet the surveyor qualifications set in state law. Anyone elected and serving when the law takes effect keeps the job until that term ends. After that, no more elections are held for this office. Older laws that conflict with these rules are repealed.
