Nelson fills vacant offices until special elections
When Nelson’s mayor or a council seat becomes vacant, the council must order a special election. The council or its remaining members must appoint someone to serve temporarily. That person serves until a successor is elected and meets the requirements to take office. The special election fills the rest of the term and must follow Georgia’s election law.
