New technology fees in Upson magistrate court

The law allows the Upson County Magistrate Court clerk to collect technology fees set by the chief magistrate. Fees are capped at $5 per civil-action filing and $5 added to each fine the court assesses. The clerk must keep this money in a separate account used only for the court’s technology needs. Allowed uses include computers, software, related equipment, installation, maintenance, and turning court records into digital files for public access. Authority to charge these fees ends July 1, 2035. Any money left in the account remains dedicated to general Upson County technology uses.
