Up to $5 fee at Macon Probate Court

The clerk may charge a technology fee in the Macon County Probate Court. It is up to $5 for each civil filing and up to $5 added to each court fine. The probate judge sets the exact amounts. The clerk keeps these fees in a separate account and spends them only on court technology, like computers, imaging and scanning gear, communications and printing tools, and digitizing records for public access. The authority to charge this fee ends July 1, 2035. After that date, the fee no longer applies, and leftover money stays for county technology needs.
