Macon County Probate Court allows technology fees

Macon County Probate Court can charge up to $5 for each civil case filed. It can also add up to $5 to each fine assessed. The probate judge sets the amounts, and the clerk can collect them. The clerk must keep this money in a separate account used only for court technology. Allowed uses include computers, software, document and communications equipment, and related leases, maintenance, and installation. The money can also pay to turn court records and archives into digital files for public access. Authority to charge these fees ends July 1, 2035. Any money left stays dedicated to general Macon County technology uses.
