Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Hotel tax funds set for tourism

When Jasper County collects the hotel tax, it compares total tax to what a 5% tax would raise. At least 50% of the dollars above that 5% amount must fund tourism promotion. The rest of those extra dollars must fund tourism product development. The county’s designated destination marketing group manages the promotion funds, or another authorized group under an existing contract.

Higher hotel room tax in Jasper County

Jasper County can charge up to an 8% tax on hotel, motel, and similar room charges. Guests pay the tax; operators must collect and send it in. A county resolution adopted November 4, 2024 sets the exact rate and how the money is used.
