Cobb County tax office pay rules

Cobb County’s tax commissioner receives the state-law minimum salary plus a county-funded supplement capped at $47,443 a year. The law does not set the exact supplement amount; payments come in equal monthly installments. The chief clerk receives $170,751 a year from county funds, also in equal monthly installments. The commissioner, chief clerk, executive secretary, and administrative specialist are entitled to other pay or raises provided by law. This includes cost-of-living or merit raises when the county gives them to county employees, with no set amount or schedule.

Cobb County adds jobs with pay caps

The law creates an executive secretary job and an administrative specialist job in Cobb County’s tax commissioner’s office. Each job has an annual salary cap of $71,111, paid from county funds in equal monthly installments. The law does not set either job’s actual salary. The commissioner appoints and directly supervises both employees and can remove them at any time. The commissioner sets each job’s qualifications, education, and experience requirements.

Cobb tax candidates must name chief clerks

The Cobb County tax commissioner can appoint one chief clerk, who serves for the commissioner’s term. Candidates must certify their chosen clerk’s name to Cobb County’s Probate Court when qualifying for a primary or general election. If the clerk dies or is removed, the commissioner must certify a replacement’s name to the Probate Court judge within 30 days.
