More high school completion help for families

School systems in an operating completion school's attendance zone must partner with a completion school or provide grades 9–12 services. Services include dropout prevention, academic help, credit recovery, and weekday, evening, and weekend classes. Completion schools must send updated program details and registration instructions to resident systems by June 1 and December 1 annually. Within seven calendar days of receipt, systems must post the information prominently at every high school. They must also send it electronically to all grades 9–12 students and their parents or guardians.

Parents can register for completion classes

Parents can directly register eligible grades 9–12 students for credit recovery, dropout prevention, or academic help at completion schools. Students must be enrolled or eligible in their resident system, and the completion school must have classroom space. The resident system must have a current agreement that meets the existing minimum funding requirement and specifies student-support liaisons. Students remain enrolled in their resident system and do not count toward the completion school's official enrollment. If not already enrolled in the resident system, both schools must arrange that enrollment without delay.

Students keep access to outside-zone programs

The Georgia State Board of Education can let existing completion schools continue programs outside their assigned attendance zones. The law removes the former June 30, 2028 deadline. Permission lasts until a new completion school is established in the zone served by those programs. When that happens, the board must give students a reasonable transition period.

Schools share absent students' contact details

Affected school systems must share contact details for grades 9–12 students who miss 10 consecutive school days or withdraw. Each operating completion school must receive the student's full name, last known address, and telephone number within 10 school days. This can support outreach, but requires disclosure of personal information. Students who completed diploma or state-approved high school equivalency requirements are exempt. Disclosure is also waived when a parent gave notice of a planned transfer to another school system within the preceding 45 school days.
