Tift County; State Court; authorize assessment and collection of a technology fee

New technology fees in Tift County court

The law lets the Tift County State Court judge set technology fees collected by the court clerk. The limits are $5 per civil case filing and a $5 surcharge on each fine imposed by the court. Money collected is restricted to court technology: computers, software, imaging, scanning, fax, communications, projection, and printing equipment. It also covers authorized leasing, maintenance, installation, and services or equipment to digitize court records for public access. The clerk must keep the money in a separate account, subject to audit by a county-approved auditor. Fee authority ends July 1, 2035. Any money left remains dedicated to general technology uses within Tift County.
