Bulloch County elections board gains two seats

The law expands Bulloch County's elections and registration board from three members to five. Appointments for the expanded board begin July 1, 2026; all other changes take effect January 1, 2027. County officials appoint all five members, who must live in Bulloch County and be eligible voters. Three seats require no party nomination lists. For each of the other two seats, a local party committee submits up to five nominees. These are the parties whose candidates placed first and second statewide in the last regular governor's election. Lists are due at least 90 calendar days before members take office, except when filling an early vacancy. County officials can reject a list or any nominee and need not choose from a list with no suitable candidates. The three existing members serving January 1, 2027, finish their terms; county-appointed replacements serve any unfinished terms. Those seats then receive four-year terms. The two party-list seats initially run from January 1 through December 31, 2027, followed by four-year terms. Vacancies in those two seats follow the party-list appointment process and the act's vacancy rules. The law also repeals conflicting laws.
