Delivery devices get faster, with sound alerts

Georgia raises delivery devices’ speed limit from 4 to 7 miles per hour on sidewalks, shared-use paths, safety zones, and crosswalks. The maximum is 20 miles per hour on bicycle lanes, shoulders, and roadways. The crosswalk minimum stays at 3.5 feet per second. Moving delivery devices must sound an alert within six feet of a vehicle, someone walking, or someone using a wheelchair. This replaces the old sound requirement triggered when a device was struck. Operators of electric personal mobility devices and delivery devices must follow applicable state or local rules and take care to avoid pedestrians.
