Georgia’s updated water plan gains legal effect

Georgia gives legal effect to statewide water plan changes adopted by the Water Council on December 9, 2025. These changes were submitted to lawmakers on January 12, 2026, and are on file with the Environmental Protection Division director. Current or future state laws control wherever a conflict with the plan cannot be resolved. Ratification took effect upon the Governor’s approval or upon becoming law without that approval.
