Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Officials and attorneys banned from bail bonds

The law bars most elected officials, court officers, law enforcement, and attorneys from working, directly or indirectly, in the bail bond business anywhere in Georgia. "Elected official" here does not include school board members or members of a county, city, or consolidated governing authority. Members of those governing authorities cannot do bail bond business inside the area where they hold office. A violation is a misdemeanor.

Immediate effect and repeal of conflicts

The law takes effect when the Governor signs it or when it becomes law without a signature. From that day, the bans and the misdemeanor penalty apply. The law also repeals any older rules that conflict with these changes.
