Lower school taxes for Dade homeowners

Dade County homeowners get a new school property tax break. It exempts the increase in your home's assessed value above your base year from Dade County school taxes. It applies only to Dade County school taxes, not state, county, or city taxes, and not school bond taxes. It does not cover value from new improvements or land you add after the base year. Your home must qualify as a Georgia homestead and be no more than five contiguous acres. Apply once with the Dade County tax commissioner; it renews while you live there, and a surviving spouse can keep it. This starts with 2026 tax years if a majority of Dade County voters approve it in November 2025; otherwise, it does not take effect.
