Local government investment pools need state approval

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law applies to pooled investments made on or after that date. Pools investing money for two or more local governments need State Depository Board approval before being established. The existing state local government investment pool and pools created under Code Section 36-83-6 are exempt. The state pool combines local government funds and funds from other public bodies accepted by the board. These funds are held by the state for investment and reinvestment.
