State workers gain brace and prosthetic coverage

Beginning January 1, 2027, qualifying Georgia state health plans must cover medically necessary braces and prosthetic devices, including parts and materials. Coverage applies to state employees, public school teachers and employees, and Board of Regents members and employees. Their retirees and dependents are also included. The law takes effect only when money is specifically set aside for its purposes. Its effective date is the later of the funding law’s effective date or the start of the funded budget year.
