Hawaii task force studies faster permits

The law creates a temporary task force in the Hawaii House to study ways to speed up and coordinate development permits. Its members include the governor’s office, legislators, and state agencies involved in business, housing, land, energy, utilities, historic preservation, wastewater, and building codes. The task force must invite county permitting departments, congressional offices, and a labor expert. Members must be named by August 1, 2025; the first meeting must occur by the earlier of 60 days after membership is finalized or October 1, 2025. Members serve without pay, and the task force ends June 30, 2027. The law provides $100,000 in each of fiscal years 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 for staffing and administration, spent by the Office of Planning and Sustainable Development.
