More librarian help for selected Hawaii schools

Beginning July 1, 2025, Hawaii's Department of Education runs a two-year pilot with two full-time certified librarians providing rotating library services. The department selects one public school complex on Oahu and one on a neighbor island. General revenues provide $132,308 in fiscal year 2025-2026 and another $132,308 in fiscal year 2026-2027. Each year, $66,154 funds each complex's librarian through two twelve-month state office-level teacher positions. The department must use the money for the pilot, which ends June 30, 2027. Reports are due at least 20 days before the Legislature's 2026 and 2027 regular sessions convene. Both reports must include findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation; the 2027 report must recommend whether to extend the pilot.
