Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Attorney General expands trafficking enforcement

The Attorney General can hire attorneys, investigators, and other staff to fight human trafficking. The office pays these costs from funds already allocated to it. County prosecutors and law enforcement can ask the Attorney General for help with investigations and prosecutions. Any agency can send case findings to the Attorney General, who then decides whether to investigate or prosecute.

Law takes effect immediately

The law takes effect on passage and approval. The emergency clause makes all changes start immediately.

Statewide trafficking training and biennial report

The Attorney General must publish a human trafficking report by January 1 of each even-numbered year. The report explains Idaho’s efforts and gives next steps for state government. The office also compiles and keeps a training curriculum for prosecutors, police, victim advocates, and the public. The goal is consistent skills and public awareness statewide.
