Adults face felony for online child enticement

Beginning July 1, 2026, an adult who uses the internet or any messaging device to try to lure a child into an illegal sexual act commits a felony. A conviction can bring up to 15 years in state prison. A "child" is under 16, or age 16 or 17 when the accused is at least five years older. Prosecutors do not have to prove the sexual act happened; the online enticement and intent are enough. It is not a defense that police or someone working for police took part in the sting. Idaho can charge the case if the message began in Idaho or was received in Idaho.
