Beginning July 1, 2026, the law updates many terms in the hazardous waste rules. It clarifies what words like disposal, generator, hazardous waste, storage, and person mean. The Department of Environmental Quality helps promote safer, resource‑saving ways to handle hazardous waste. This includes separating waste where it is made and cutting waste at the source.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the state repeals all Big Payette Lake water quality laws. People and businesses once covered by that chapter no longer follow those special lake rules.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the state ends the hazardous waste planning committee and the mandate to keep a statewide plan. It also removes related planning and past permitting sections. From that date, the Director cannot license a hazardous waste treatment, storage, or disposal facility unless it matches any adopted hazardous waste management plan. The Director can exempt whole classes of facilities only by formal rule, and only when consistent with state and federal law.
