Misdemeanors for disturbing worship, funerals, neighborhoods

Beginning July 1, 2026, it is a misdemeanor to maliciously and willfully disturb the peace of a religious gathering, house of worship, neighborhood, family, or person. Covered acts include loud or unusual noise. They also include offensive or tumultuous conduct, threats, quarreling, challenging someone to fight, or fighting. It also covers firing a gun or pistol. Loud vulgar, profane, or indecent words heard by children are included. It is also a misdemeanor to disturb the dignity or reverential nature of a funeral, memorial service, funeral procession, burial, or viewing. Police and prosecutors can act to protect attendees, grieving families, and nearby residents.
