More county say in federal land plans

When a county board joins a federal environmental review or land planning process as a cooperating agency, the law treats it as having special expertise on county matters. That covers health, safety, welfare, local custom and culture, and the county’s economy. Boards that have a county comprehensive plan can take part in formal coordination with federal agencies. This includes work under the Multiple-Use Sustained-Yield Act, the National Forest Management Act, the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, related regulations, and other laws that call for local coordination. The law is in effect now.
