You can rent temporary trash containers

Beginning July 1, 2026, you can hire a trash collector of your choosing for temporary, project-specific containers. This applies even if your county has an exclusive collection contract or franchise. The container must be temporary and project-specific under your county ordinance.

Flexible county contracts for waste service

Beginning July 1, 2026, county boards decide how to run solid waste systems. They may use county staff, private companies, other governments, or any mix. They may award contracts or franchises with or without competitive bidding to protect health, safety, and well-being. Counties may require performance security from contractors or waive it.
