No time limit for serious crimes

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho removes the time limit to file charges for several serious crimes. There is no statute of limitations for murder, voluntary manslaughter, rape under Idaho Code 18-6101(3)–(10), sexual abuse of a child, lewd or aggravated lewd conduct with a child (Idaho Code 18-1506, 18-1508, 18-1508B, 18-1508C), producing or making sexually exploitative material (Idaho Code 18-1507(2)(b)), and certain terrorism crimes (Idaho Code 18-8102, 18-8103, 18-3322, 18-3323, 18-3324). Prosecutors can bring these cases at any time, no matter how long ago the crime happened.
