Ban on fake or unsafe air bags

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law bans making, importing, selling, leasing, or installing counterfeit or nonworking air bags or air bag parts. You cannot sell or lease a vehicle that has a fake or nonworking air bag; air bags must meet federal safety standards. It is illegal to install parts that stop the air bag warning from alerting the driver. A violation occurs after the work is finished and the car is returned or the title changes hands. Breaking these rules is a misdemeanor. The old state air bag section is repealed and replaced with these rules.
