Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

No in-person classes on election days

Schools do not hold in-person classes on election days set in state law. This starts January 1, 2028. Schools may run activities like teacher training or sports, but not inside a polling place. They may encourage eligible students to vote or serve as poll workers. In-person classes are allowed if the county clerk and the school district agree that student buildings are not used as polling places.

Hour waivers after disasters or elections

The State Board can waive required teaching hours when a district closes because of a disaster or an election. A county or state disaster declaration must cover at least one county in the district. The district must explain how it will make up time, which grades are affected, and how many hours it wants waived. This applies starting January 1, 2028.
