4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

CTE college credits now transfer statewide

Beginning July 1, 2026, CTE credits you earn at one Idaho public college transfer in full to another public college with a similar program. The receiving school counts those credits toward its specific course requirements. The state can also give colleges incentives to align core CTE courses so transfer is smoother across schools.

Easier path to become a CTE teacher

Beginning July 1, 2026, you can get a CTE teacher certificate through clear paths. You must pass the criminal history check. Then meet one of these: hold an approved industry certification; have at least 6,000 hours of related work; or have a related bachelor’s degree and at least 2,000 hours of related work. You must also finish educator training that the CTE division approves.

New state office to run CTE

Beginning July 1, 2026, the State Board appoints a CTE administrator and creates the Division of Career Technical Education. The administrator carries out Board rules, coordinates with the executive secretary, and prepares reports on CTE. The Board can set rules to put these changes into practice.

Online CTE option with funding limits

Beginning July 1, 2026, the state can work with the Idaho Digital Learning Academy to offer CTE courses online. Districts can choose to use these courses or keep their own. The CTE division keeps a list of each pathway as in person, online, or hybrid and sets funding methods for each. Fully online pathways are presumed to get the same funding as in person, but funding is based on approved costs and cannot be higher than in-person costs.
