Lifetime license fees and residency rules

Beginning July 1, 2026, you can buy a lifetime hunting, fishing, combined, or trapping certificate only if you qualify as an Idaho resident or have resident license privileges and have lived in Idaho at least five years. If the applicant is under five, a legal guardian must have five years of Idaho residency. You pay a one-time fee based on age: ages 0–1 pay 25 times the normal fee; ages 2–50 pay 35 times; age 51+ pay 20 times. The base “normal fee” is the fee in section 36-416(a) for that license type.

Rules and funding for lifetime licenses

Starting July 1, 2026, the Fish and Game Commission sets rules for how lifetime certificates are issued, recorded, and managed. Holders must follow Title 36 rules, including seasons, limits, and enforcement. All money from lifetime certificate sales goes to the State Treasurer and into the Fish and Game Trust Fund. The Commission may spend this money only to carry out fish and game laws and protect wildlife.
