New limits on data center cooling water

Beginning July 1, 2026, new data centers face limits on cooling water use. If construction starts on or after that date, they cannot use cooling water as a consumptive use unless it comes from a city, water district, or water‑and‑sewer district system. This applies only to facilities that meet Idaho’s data center definition. It does not affect centers built earlier or already under construction.
