Idaho voters get 2026 state gun question

The law puts an advisory, nonbinding question on the 2026 general election ballot about a state gun. The Secretary of State must place the question on the ballot and count the results. The list starts with six named firearms, and the Legislative Council may add more before it files required materials. The Legislative Council must file a short dossier by July 1, 2026 that explains the question and briefly describes each listed firearm. The Secretary of State includes this information in the voters’ pamphlet when possible. The question is treated like other ballot measures under Idaho election law. The law is in effect now.
