AG can seek court orders to enforce laws

AG helps local cases and probes officials

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General helps county prosecutors when public service requires it. The AG also investigates claims that elected county or city officers broke state criminal law while on the job and may keep and prosecute those cases.

AG provides legal counsel to state agencies

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General represents Idaho and its agencies in all courts and hearings. The office advises state departments and boards on legal questions. The AG gives written legal opinions at no fee to the governor, legislature, and listed state officers, and keeps and publishes those opinions each year.

New unit to fight internet child crimes

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General establishes an Internet Crimes Against Children unit. It investigates and prosecutes listed internet crimes against minors, alongside county prosecutors. The unit focuses on protecting children and helping families.

Stronger state tools to collect judgments

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General directs actions to enforce state court judgments and must turn state money over to the proper officer. The AG may bid on and buy property sold under execution for the state and redeem property with earlier liens, when directed by the state controller. The office can sue to undo fraudulent transfers by judgment debtors. Payments and costs tied to these actions come from appropriated funds only when the board of examiners approves.

Stronger oversight of charities and nonprofit hospitals

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General enforces Idaho laws on charitable solicitations and nonprofit hospital sales or conversions. The office can investigate when a charity strays from its stated purposes and take action to correct it.

Medicaid fraud unit to protect benefits

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General creates a Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The unit investigates and prosecutes crimes that involve Medicaid funds or services, working with county prosecutors. The goal is to protect Medicaid dollars and people on Medicaid.

Sobriety monitoring program with participant fees

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Attorney General runs a sobriety and drug monitoring program to cut DUI and repeat offenses. The AG may set rules and charge fees to operate the program. The program gives prosecutors and judges more pretrial and posttrial options for repeat DUI and related cases.
