New Idaho veterans services division and commission

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho creates a Division of Veterans Services within the state’s self‑governing agencies. The governor appoints its administrator from a list the Idaho Veterans Affairs Commission submits, and can remove the administrator only with the commission’s consent. The law also creates a five‑member veterans affairs commission of honorably discharged war or conflict veterans, with three‑year terms and no more than two from the same judicial district. The governor may end the commission by proclamation if the U.S. or Idaho already provides adequate care for honorably discharged, destitute veterans. The division also receives real and personal property now held by Health and Welfare that is used for veterans duties transferred in 2000.

Old Veterans Home statute repealed

Beginning July 1, 2026, the law repeals Idaho Code 65‑210 about the Veterans Home in Northern Idaho. This is part of a code cleanup to remove obsolete or outdated text. It simplifies the code but deletes that section’s authorizing language, so practical effects depend on what 65‑210 had required.
