Tighter fee rules for veterans claim help

Beginning July 1, 2026, pay for veterans claims is barred unless federal law allows, and referral fees are banned. Unaccredited non‑attorney providers must use a signed fee agreement. Pay is only after a benefit rise, capped at five times the monthly increase. Upfront and nonrefundable fees are banned. In the first year after active‑duty release, no pay is allowed unless the veteran signs to decline free help. VA‑accredited agents and attorneys remain under VA rules.

Privacy and disclosure rules for paid claim help

Beginning July 1, 2026, paid providers covered by this law must give a clear written notice before you sign. It must say they are not sponsored by VA or Idaho veterans services and that free help may be available. It must also explain that services are not endorsed and you may qualify for other benefits. These providers cannot use offshore call centers or data centers, or use your personal logins. They must run identity and criminal background checks before anyone accesses your medical or financial information.
