Higher Idaho small claims limit to $15,000

Beginning July 1, 2026, you can file Idaho small claims for up to $15,000 per claim for money or personal property. The old cap was $5,000. More cases fit in small claims. Defendants can face higher exposure to judgments in this court.

No punitive damages; new small claims venue

Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho small claims cannot award punitive damages or pain‑and‑suffering. File in the county where the defendant lives or where the problem happened. If filed in the wrong county, the defendant can ask to move the case.
