Starting July 1, 2026, the state keeps the Kootenai County skeet and trap range open while it leases the land. The Department of Fish and Game must run and manage the range, even without a concessionaire. The lease continues until the new Farragut shotgun complex opens to the public.
Starting July 1, 2026, the Commission must build and open a public shotgun complex at Farragut State Park by December 31, 2040. The site must include at least six combo trap and skeet fields, 15 sporting clay stations with at least four throwers each (60+ total) including rabbit and teal/chandelle options, and one five-stand with at least 10 machines (two tower, one rabbit, one teal/chandelle). It must also have a clubhouse, bathrooms, trailer parking, outdoor seating, safety signs, OHV and golf-cart paths, and storage. The project uses Pittman-Robertson funds and money from House Bill 304. If that is not enough to build, run, and maintain the site, the Commission may ask the legislature for more.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the Fish and Game Commission must make a long-term plan for a shotgun complex at Farragut State Park. The plan must be public and sent to the House and Senate resource committees for the 2027 session. The Commission must review and update the plan at least every five years. If asked, the Department of Fish and Game can help, negotiate leases, or acquire land. The Commission may sign leases or buy land in the State’s name. Each year, the Department must send a written update on acquisitions, leases, or planning to JFAC and the two resource committees.
