2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Faster ballot certification and district maps

Beginning July 1, 2026, county clerks must notify local clerks within 24 hours when a filing arrives and certify nominees no more than five days after filing closes. Local subdivision clerks must review and certify within 48 hours after they are notified. In any year with an election, local clerks must send accurate subdistrict maps to the county clerk by January 1. These deadlines help produce timely and accurate ballots.

Standard rules for local candidate filings

Beginning July 1, 2026, candidates for local offices must use one county-issued petition form. Petitions must show the candidate’s name, the office, and the term. They must include at least five signatures from electors in the candidate’s zone or district and be filed with the county clerk. Filing opens at 8:00 a.m. on the twelfth Monday before the election and closes at 5:00 p.m. on the tenth Friday before the election. Petitions must list a campaign phone number and email, and all petition information is public on request.
