Beginning July 1, 2026, if you hold an Idaho educator certificate and resign during an investigation, your case goes to the Professional Standards Commission. The same applies if you resign instead of discipline, termination, or during administrative leave in an investigation. The Commission may discipline you and updates your certification status. This can limit future teaching jobs.
Beginning July 1, 2026, private‑school staff can sue under Idaho’s whistleblower law only for good‑faith reports tied to child‑abuse reporting. The report must claim misconduct or a violation or suspected violation of section 16‑1605. Other whistleblower claims against private schools do not qualify.
Beginning July 1, 2026, K–12 schools must report suspected child abuse, abandonment, or neglect to law enforcement. They cannot rely only on an internal review instead of that report. Schools may still take job or administrative actions. They may review internally after they report.
Beginning July 1, 2026, Idaho schools use stronger hiring checks. School districts require a sworn written disclosure from applicants. Private and charter schools must get your signed okay to contact employers from the last 10 years. They must request records on investigations, resignations during probes, or discipline. Past employers must answer. Schools can release those employers from lawsuits for good‑faith information. Offers can be pulled for lies or willful omissions.
